2023 Scottsdale sales snapshot: RM at the Arizona Biltmore

2023 Scottsdale sales snapshot: RM at the Arizona Biltmore 27th January 2023

Proceedings at the Biltmore might have been cut back to just one session since 2020, but RM enjoyed a busy sale earlier today. Working from provisional figures, we predict the Canadians to gross in excess of $44m at a sold-by-number figure of 90%.

Unsurprisingly, top-selling car was the 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari that went under low estimate following unenthusiastic bidding for $4,075,000 all-in.

At a glance (provisional):

* Gross, motor cars: $44,436,341 (2022, $42,970,300)
* Percentage sold by number: 90% (2022, 93%)
* Top-selling car: 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari $4,075,000 gross, $3,700,000 net (est. $4m to $4.5m)

Proceedings were conducted at a steady pace with bidding coming from the room, the telephones and the internet (an online client paid $863,000 for the 2010 Ferrari GTO). The auction started at 2pm and was all over by 7pm.

Several lots (F40, Lexus LFA, 500 Superfast) were sold immediately post-sale. Expect more over the next day or so.

Other results of note (all prices gross):

* 1995 Ferrari F512 M, $681,500. Mad price for the rare Canna Fucile TR offspring but a little far off its even crazier estimate. Looked lovely in the sun.
* 1994 Bugatti EB110 GT, Not Sold. And never looked like selling.
* 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV, $3,580,000. One of the successes of the auction. The older restoration SV in non-standard colours with a lot of incorrect detail attracted much pre-sale attention. Once on the block, bids came thick and fast.
* 1992 Ferrari F40, sold immediately post-sale for $2,150,000.
* 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra, Not Sold. An ex-Elvis movie car (return to sender?) but, sadly, too similar in looks to a kit car.
* 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, $1,820,000. Good money: the estimate was out.
* 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ZL-1 Convertible, $3,140,000. Terrific result for the owner of a genuinely significant US road/racing car.
* 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, $3,360,000. Sold slightly on low estimate but an attractive car and market-average price at auction.
