Ferrari Dinos lead the way at Silverstone’s June Owners’ Club sale

Ferrari Dinos lead the way at Silverstone’s June Owners’ Club sale 10th June 2021

Out of a small catalogue of 25 cars, Midlands specialist Silverstone sold 14 – a just about respectable sell-through-by-number percentage of 56%.

Top of the charts was the Japanese-market 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO, unsold earlier this year, that achieved £399,375 including Silverstone’s regular 12.5% buyer’s premium.

At a glance:

* Gross: £2,277,624
* Percentage sold by number: 56%
* Top-selling car: 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO £399,375 gross, £355,000 net (est. £380k to £480k)
* Well sold? Someone wanted the dry-sump 1978 308 GTB: it sold £3,500 over top estimate, for £65,812 gross
* Well bought? The F355 was the first of the properly fast mid-engined Ferraris, and you could still spec a manual ’box. So maybe the black example out of long-term storage that went for £90,000 all-in

Of the four Dinos on offer, all of which sold, the best price was achieved by the 1974 246 GTS ‘Chairs and Flairs’ car first delivered to Malaysia (pictured, top). Estimated at £375k to £425k, it was hammered sold at £345,000. That’s £388,125 gross, proving the strength of the Dino market for examples in unusual colours and with an interesting specification. A red car, once Blu Scuro, more of a rolling restoration project and with an unverified engine, achieved £213,750.

In line with recent trends, the (inevitably) red ‘Daytona’ did not sell. Nor did two out of the three 575 Maranello F1s on offer.
