K500 2015 sector analysis: Ferrari (1958-1973)

K500 2015 sector analysis: Ferrari (1958-1973) 10th January 2016

January 2015 623.69, December 2015 688.20.

Another sector with growth slowing - in 2014 it opened at 574. Four-cam 275 GTBs are static, two-cams have risen, buoyed by the model’s interesting variations in bodywork and specification. Dino 246 GTs have come off an opening year figure of 817.84 to finish at 725.12. ‘Daytonas’ have gained 100 points, yet very rarely break the million-dollar barrier, despite their sellers’ blandishments.

Although not included in our detailed analysis of the international saleroom’s auctions, British provincial house H&H’s Richard Colton Collection sale provides the highlight of this sector. The steel, early RHD, ‘semi-comp’ 250 GT SWB achieved the equivalent of $11.3m in October. Best described as ‘shabby chic’, long-term ownership by a true enthusiast, interesting specification and a fair degree of originality offset the costs of expensive restoration.
