January 2015 471.17, December 2015 479.46.

Another static performer. Early 911s have risen so far and seemingly reached a plateau, while later 930s, 964 RSs and 993 Turbos have benefitted from the halo effect of the chrome bumper mania of the last three or four years.

The original collectible 911, the 1973 Carrera RS, has gone from 2163.90 to 2204.02. These are twentyfold increases since 1994, remember. Ordinary cars sell only on price (around $600k - $700k), while exceptional ones will do very well. We’d pick out two, both from RM, and say that the standard of the New York sale RS Touring left little to be desired (forgiving the twin exhausts...) Consequently, it sold for $918,500.

Top: Really the 'nicest RS on the planet', as the catalogue claimed? A fine car at RM's NYC sale, nonetheless
