Given the sheer volume of cars traded in the US, it’s inevitable that the odd highpoint will be drowned out by the many thousands of other sales. The Happy Days and American Graffiti generation has moved on, and as years go by the number of young home wrenchers has dried up. After an eight-year hiatus, though, there are signs that rare muscle cars might be back: Barrett-Jackson sold a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang for $550,000 in January. Cobra values have remained static, with well-documented racers worth double.
