Considered by many to be the ‘best historic motor racing event in the world’, the Goodwood Revival is held annually in late summer at the former Battle of Britain airfield on the South Coast of Britain.

The period-look Revival was first run in 1998, the super-fast circuit having closed its gates to general racing in August 1966. For would-be competitors, obtaining an entry to the Revival is by invitation only. While some cars will always be eligible, there’s no guarantee they’ll actually be selected. So, during the weekend, ‘Auntie Maude’s’ 1950s shopping saloon will share paddock space with a $50m Ferrari 250 GTO.

And one year’s sure-fire winning marque and model might be left on the sidelines the following. Spectators are expected to join in the fun, too, dressing the part either as WW2 nurses, 1950s Beatniks or simply as if they had strayed from the owners’ enclosure at the nearby Goodwood Racecourse. The races are for sports cars, single-seaters and saloons, all of which must be of a type that raced at the Goodwood circuit (or Brooklands, for the pre-War cars) in period.

Quite simply, a ‘must-do’. The feature race is, of course, held on the Sunday: the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Celebration, where Ferrari GTOs go head-to-head with Aston Martins, AC Cobras and Lightweight E-types.
