The Market in June 2017: a Bird’s Eye View

The market? When a small auction house has a dud sale, it's easy to dismiss; but when one of the pros stumbles, people take notice. Bonhams' Aston auction didn't contain much, so there weren't many surprises but although RM's Villa Erba fixture isn't in the Monterey league, its patchy results give pause for thought. Whilst by no means a dud, it reminds us that the market for almost-new supercars isn't a one-way ticket to the stars, and that even great classics need to be market fresh to soar.

I won't call it a crisis, as the best is still changing hands at record levels off the radar, but owners should make no mistake: beneath that swan's calm surface demeanour, the feet are paddling furiously below water to keep everything flowing.
